Single Coated

It's fun that I've had the camera taking these shots since probably more than two years ago. It's a Canonet G-III QL19, the small brother of the ultra-well known 'poor one's Leica', the mighty G-III QL17.

Apart from a bit different battery check control and lack of the funny 'barber window', the main difference is in the lens, and not that it's that much: this model features a 45mm f/1.9, slightly longer and slower than the 17's 40/1.7.



Well, the fun story is that until probably two or three weeks ago I hadn't shot a single frame through that camera. First because I had it pending light seal replacement (using the fantastic kits provided by Jon Goodman, aka interslice on eBay) and later because I just couldn't seem to find the right moment in the middle of the final project madness I mention on the previous thread.



And probably the most fun part is that I only took the plunge and decided to run a first roll when I saw myself in the need of selling it, lol !

I've been quite surprised by how well it has done, to my eyes virtually identical to the (supposedly sharper) 40/1.7 version. That said, the excellent Efke 50 film may also have something to do with it...




As you can see, there's even more gearhead talking on this thread than there is about pure photography. I can't really say why, but the truth is after some months on which I was trying to convince myself that only photography was important, I sort of recalled on the idea that only what is important to YOU is important.



So, if you find plain fun in shooting what you find around with no defined purpose, and/or you can't stand from feeling curious about how an ancient or toy or ultimate digital camera can do, well, there's no real reason after that, just go out there and have fun.

In the end, it's what all this is about, isn't it ? ;)
