After 'discovering' what probably is an ancient visigothic tomb on one of my rural escapes, I recalled reading about the rests of what was a visigothic settlement nearby. If this time history and destiny doesn't fail me, this place, called El Villar, is exactly where that settlement was placed.
Even though I tried to do my best, these pictures truly don't make justice to what was, under a warm sunny day, a real paradise. Ancient rocks from old constructions and walls, a green pasture like a fresh green carpet covering everything (in what is otherwise a very arid place), and the hill rocks, surrounding everything, in fantastic and almost unnatural balance sometimes, building natural terraces in progressive levels all over the place again and again, which makes it in the end is a lot bigger than I thought at first sight.

Not sure what happened here centuries ago, but for sure it would have been a superlative place for a village, even more if considering it's privileged and strategic position, a hundred meters above the valley.
Too bad that according to what I read about rural visigothic settlements, they were probably too busy trying to stay alive...

Aunque he intentado hacerlo lo mejor posible, creo que honestamente no lo he conseguido y estas fotos no hacen justicia a lo que, bajo un día cálido y soleado era realmente un paraíso. Antiguas piedras de vaya a saber qué construcciones (casas, corrales ? seguramente de todo un poco y tanto antiguo como moderno, a juzgar por la paridera que alguien tiene allí cerca), una auténtica alfombra fresca y verde (en lo que normalmente es un lugar árido o árido), y rodeándolo todo, la montaña y sus rocas, en fantástico y a veces sobrenatural equilibrio, construyendo terrazas a niveles progresivos y haciendo el lugar mucho más extenso de lo que pensé a primera vista.
No estoy seguro de qué hubo allí hace siglos, pero está claro que hubiera sido un sitio privilegiado para acoger una población, tanto por extensión como por la privilegiada vista que tiene del valle, situado como está a unos 100 metro por encima de él.
Lástima que acorde con lo que he leído estos días sobre poblados rurales visigodos, probablemente estarían demasiado ocupados intentando sobrevivir como para preocuparse por esas cosas...
